Buffalo Racing
“The Tradition of Buffalo Racing” is the identity of Chonburi province. It happens one day before the End of Buddhist Lent Day. The tradition aims to provide rest for the farmers and buffalos after plowing season. It is an opportunity to meet and hang out among each other while waiting for the harvest. The owners or the buffalo riders will dress up their buffalos with colorful satins and bouquet of beautiful flowers before proceeding to the racing field. The joyful moment comes from the awkward and weird gestures of the buffalo when running. Originally the buffalo racing is done for redeeming a vow to the Buddha when the buffalo was sick. Later on, it has changed so that the buffalos could run and exercise before it could get sick which has now become a local tradition to also have a contest for the healthiest buffalo.
