Durian is accepted as the economic fruit which creating the vast income for Thailand. Durian is exported to many countries in particular China. Durian is well recognized in Southeast Asia. There are many varieties.  It was assumed that Durian originated from Borneo islands, Sumatra islands, Malay Peninsula before widespread to Thailand Myanmar Ceylon and  Philippines.
From the chronicle of the French Ambassador, Monsieur de La Loubere noted that in the period of King Narai of Ayutthaya, the story of Durian was recorded in the Siamese agriculture document. The ambassador described in his chronicle that Durian in that time pronounced as Torrion. It obtained distinctive odour. Its fruit was big as melon with spike rind. The seed had similar size to egg which the edible segment covering its seed.
Following to Rattakosin period, it was understood that Durian was widespread from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Bangkok, approximately in 1775.  Later in 1845, there was the initial durian farm at Baan Krang district, in the area of Bangkok Noi Canal before expanding throughout the country. At present, the vital areas in cultivating Durian  are Chanthaburi, Rayong Prachinburi. The popular species to cultivate are Cha-nee, Mon-thong and Kanyao
